Forestry Ministry Destroyed Wild Animal Offsets

Jakarta, Forestry Minister, Zulkifli Hasan, destroyed 258 wild animal offsets in the yard of Manggala Wanabakti Office on Monday (12/11/2012).

“These rare animals raid by PHKA Directorate General, cooperation with customs, quarantine, police, and attorney.  We need to socialize about the extinct and law protection of 230 animals. This event is a moment to socialize for people that if they sell, keep, or maintain the protected animals, they will be in jail for 5 years,” Zulkifli said.

The wild animal offsets and the broken parts have been destroyed by fire. These offsets were 15 Sumatra tigers, 2 honey bears, 48 deer horns, 22 bird of paradise, other offsets, and 4 sacks of various mollusks. This is the way to uphold the law of wild animal criminal.

“We asked the supporting from people, mass media, police, and local government so that the trading would not happen again. The 7 suspected persons have been arrested. Some of them have been sentenced, others are still in investigation,” Zulkifli said.

Remains of the useful offsets will give to the institute/university that is LIPI, ITB, IPB, Reseach Center and The Development of Forest and Nature Conservation, and Forestry Museum as research substance and education of conservation. (Nn)
